A free stop motion app.
Make stop motion online on your phone, tablet, laptop or school Chromebook. Shoot frame by frame with onion skin, play it back, and export a video. Nothing to install, no account, and your frames never leave your device.
Prop your phone or tablet so it can't move (a stack of books works), set up your scene, and shoot one frame at a time.
How to make stop motion here
- 01Press Start animating and allow the camera.
- 02Prop your phone, tablet or laptop so it can't move: a stack of books or a cheap phone stand works.
- 03Move your figure, clay or drawing a little, then take a frame. The last frame shows faintly over the camera (onion skin), so you can judge the next move.
- 04Repeat. About 10 frames make one second of film.
- 05Press Play to watch it, then Export to save it as a video.
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Shooting with onion skin, the timer, editing frames, playback and 720p video export are free, with no ads and no sign-up. Free videos carry a small stopmotiononline.com mark in the corner. Lifetime, one payment of $9.99, removes the mark and adds 1080p video, sound and GIF export.
Is this a stop motion app I have to download?
No. It runs in Safari or Chrome on iPhone, iPad and Android, and in Chrome on laptops and Chromebooks. To open it in one tap, add it to your Home Screen from the browser's Share menu.
Does it work on a school Chromebook?
Yes, in Chrome, with nothing to install, as long as your school allows websites to use the camera. If the camera is blocked, you can still make a film from photos taken another way.
Where are my films saved?
In your browser on this device. Safari deletes a site's saved data after 7 days without a visit unless you add the site to your Home Screen, so on an iPhone add it there, or download your film's frames from Your films.
How many frames per second should I use?
10 frames per second is a good start. 12 is the classic stop motion look, used in many feature films. Fewer frames per second looks jerkier but needs fewer frames; you can change the speed at any time, even after shooting.
Why does my film flicker?
The light changed between frames. Shoot away from windows, use a lamp, and don't stand between the light and your scene. The studio also locks the camera's light and focus after your first frame where the browser allows it.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The camera, your frames and the videos you make all stay in your browser on this device. Nothing is sent to us or stored on a server.
